Today we will be introducing Cafe Coin, a traditional and beautiful cafe in the heart of Myeong-dong. This cafe is very popular amongst Koreans to the point where a second branch was opened! Our Visit
Coin Cafe branch 2 is located near Euljiro 1-ga station. You won't be able to pass it as it it located in this bright green building. After the first branch opened in 1993, the cafe quickly rose to popularity, leading to the opening of this branch.
There is an entrance on the left side that will lead you up to the second floor!
Like branch 1, this branch has also welcomed the visits of many celebrities and there is a wall of autographs at the entrance. Cafe Coin has quite a long history and you can see that within the signatures of the people who have visited in the past.
Since the first store is located on the main street of Myeongdong, it is always crowded with tourists and customers. This second branch is quieter than the original and therefore a popular choice with the locals.
When we arrived, there were quite a few elderly people in the cafe talking and enjoying their drinks.
Cafe Coin Branch 2 is a two story cafe located n the second and third floor of the building. The second floor has the kitchen as well so it always gives off the aroma of cakes! The third floor has a lovely sitting area for guests and a separate smoking area.
It also has antique furniture and a vintage atmosphere like the first store. The whole space exudes of a cozy look and anyone who has been here may feel nostalgic for the past!
The second and third floors have many large windows so you can talk while enjoying the scenery outside!
We came here to sit and chat for a bit, but before we knew it, it was already dark! Time really flew by!
The menu items at Cafe Coin Branch 2 are a little different than those of the original branch.
Coffee Coin Blend (6,000 KRW) is the signature menu and is also available at the original branch. This coffee is delicious and you can really taste the freshness of the beans!
The Royal Milk Tea (7,000 KRW) was made by adding honey to milk and black tea and boiling it in a water bath. This is also another popular menu at Cafe Coin. We love the cups that they are served in, it is the perfect way to add to the atmosphere and aesthetics of the cafe.
We also got the Coin Special Waffle (17,000 KRW) which is a waffle with three different types of cream. The cake has a lot of fresh cream and a variety of fruits. Just by looking at it, it is obvious that the portion size is enormous and you will need the help of your friends to finish it!
The last menu item we tried was the lemon sponge cake (7,500 KRW). This lemon cake is homemade by Cafe Coin and also a bestseller item! The cake has a sweet and sour taste and is covered with a delicious layer of sugar on top. We are literally drooling just thinking about it right now!
How to Get There
Head out of Exit 5 of Euljiro Station 1 il-ga.
Go straight on the main road.
Turn right when you come towards CoCo pharmacy.
Continue straight and then you will see the cafe on the right.
