Masan Agujjim | Review
You'll see the big yellow sign with the Creatrip sticker once you reach second floor.
The restaurant looks old and outdated, but maintains a good level of neatness at the same time. Private rooms and seatings of different sizes are also available to accommodate work events for many offices nearby as well as family dinners.
First, the side dishes are served. They were everyday dishes seen on local's tables including stir-fried anchovies, broccoli and a house-made sauce, kimchi, seasoned cucumber and pimpinella.
Seaweed soup plays a great role in soothing the spicy flavours of the agujjim.
Dip the monkfish meat in the dipping sauce made of green wasabi and soy sauce. The wasabi's piquant kick eliminates the fishy taste. Adjust the amount of wasabi you mix into the soy sauce to your taste!
Other great seafood options such as monkfish stew, monkfish soup, steamed seafood and seafood stew are available. The name of the restaurant has agujjim in it, so I figured it was the most popular item. I ordered a small size of agujjim with a bowl of rice.
Agujjim has been finally served! Just look at the colour of the sauce. The portion was quite generous, definitely enough to serve up to 3 people.
One tip I feel essential to give you is sharing a bowl of rice among two to three people and saving room for fried rice afterwards. Their fried rice is a must!
One of the best features about this restaurant is that the monkfish is served completely deboned. Most agujjim restaurants will cook the fish as is and serve them with bones, sometimes making each bite a very challenging one and the amount of meat you get may be a lot less than it seems. Masan Agujjim is one of the rare places that serve deboned agujjim!
Remember to order the fried rice once you've finished the fish! Rice is fried on a pan with the leftover sauce and finished with seasoned seaweed on top for that extra flavour.
The top layer of the rice is soft and chewy while the bottom is crispy and stuck to the pot, complemented by the spicy, savoury sauce.
Be sure to stop by Masan Agujjim after spending time at Gyeonbokgung! The fresh monkfish, served deboned, is simple and easy to eat, and also full of mouthwatering flavours.
