When you come to Korea, you may find the need to go to a large supermarket like Lotte Mart or E-mart to pick up a few necessities. However, in Korea, large supermarkets have holidays every month. This blog post will list all the closed days for major supermarkets, department stores, and duty-free shops for the month of January. Holidays For Supermarkets in January

1. Lotte Mart

Closed on January 8, 22

Most of Lotte Mart's branches are closed on the second and fourth Sundays of each month but a few branches are closed on different dates. Most branches in tourist areas like Seoul Station, Busan, and Daegu will be closed on the 8th and 22nd. E-mart's closed days are similar to Lotte Mart's, falling on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Some E-Mart and No Brand stores in different cities may have different dates so refer to the table below.

Like E-Mart and Lotte Mart, Homeplus closes on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Some branches have different dates so refer to the table below.

4. Costco

Closed on January 1, 8, 22

If you have a Costco membership in the country you're from, you can stop by a Costco in Korea as well. There are lots of fresh produce in Costco, so if you find the need to stop by, check out the closed days below before you head over. Most Costcos will also be closed on the second and fourth Sundays of each month but some branches have different dates.

Holidays For Department Stores in January

1. Lotte Department Store

Lotte Department Store is visited by a lot of Koreans and the opening hours are between 10 in the morning to 8 at night while on Fridays and on weekends, it is open until 20:30. 2. Hyundai Department Store

Hyundai Department Store is frequently visited by both Koreans and tourists and has opening hours from 10:30 to 20:00. The closed days are as follows, so keep that in mind.

3. U-PLEX

Another department store affiliated with the Hyundai Group is U-PLEX, which is open until 22:00. The table below are the closed days for U-PLEX.

4. Shinsegae Department Store

Shinsegae Department Store is a must-visit if you're looking for some shopping. Although there aren't as many branches as other department stores, they're are plenty in the main downtown neighborhoods.
