Looking for vegan options in the country that loves its barbeque is not always easy and many of our friends always tell us how difficult it is to stay vegan in Korea.

However, it is not impossible to find great and delicious vegan options in Seoul, especially with veganism starting to gain more attention among locals here for healthier, greener living.

Drunken Vegan in Hongdae is perfect for those who want to try a variety of dishes while sipping on alcoholic beverages like soju, beer, highball, wine and many more.

In one of the small alleys of Hongdae, just minutes from exit 7 of Hongik University Station, you'll find this cozy restaurant.

Inside the restaurant, you'll see the warm dining area decorated with cute items.

Interestingly, you'll also find sex toys displayed in one corner of the space. If you're keen on one or many of the toys, you can definitely purchase them.

Once you grab a table, you can take a look at the menu (availble in Korean and English) and order.

Food is around 18,000 to 20,000 won, while drinks range from 4,000 to 12,000 won.

I was feeling for something refreshing, so I went ahead and ordered their Jim Beam Highball (10,000 won).

It wasn't the best highball I've had, but it was decent and complemented the dishes I ordered quite well.

Vegan Chili Shrimp · 비건 칠리 새우
18,000 won

Their 'shrimp' is actually made with potato starch and beans, rolled into the shape of a shrimp and fried. It's perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

The fresh salad served on the side slightly eases the guiltiness from eating fried food.

The sweet and spicy chili sauce adds a great depth to the whole flavour. The dish makes for a great meal and late-night bar food as well.

Dry Tofu Lasagna · 건두부 라자냐
18,000 won

This seems to be the signature dish that everyone who comes to Drunken Vegan orders!

I enjoyed the distinct coconut flavour, which probably is the 'cheese' sprinkled on top.

The layers of tofu with the flavourful tomato sauce and crunchy mixed nuts were just amazing!

Overall, my experience at Drunken Vegan was a good one.

My friend and I felt stuffed after sharing the two dishes and it was a nice way to wrap up a quiet evening with a slight buzz.
