Hongdae Butter Milk Review
We went 10 minutes after opening and had to wait an hour! Does it really live up to the hype?

Lots of travellers in Korea choose to stay in Hongdae because it's a convenient area that offers restaurants, cafes, bars and entertainment. But we don't hear a lot of people talk about where to have breakfast or brunch (Is it because we all wake up late hungover? 😛).
There's a place in Hongdae named Butter Milk that's brought up a lot when people discuss brunching in Hongdae. Just how popular is it? Well, even before its opening hours, you'll see a lineup outside. I really wanted to find out if it actually lives up to its hype, read below for my honest review of Butter Milk.

Come out of Hongik University Station exit 8 and turn right.
Walk straight until you reach the small alley across the street.
When you see Cafe Oumt, make a right.
At the end of the road, turn left.
Cross the street and turn right.

We arrived at Butter Milk in Hongdae at 10:10, only to find out the place was already filled and had a lineup outside. There are stools outside for you to sit on during your wait.
When it's cold, the restaurant provides waiting customers with blankets.
You'll be given the menu during your wait, which is in Korean and English. Keep in mind that this place does not cancel and reorder when you change your mind! What you order will get prepared straight away in the kitchen so be very careful when you make up your mind and order.
What's even crazier than not being allowed to change our mind midway is that I got a table at 11:30. Butter Milk only has 6 tables so the wait tends to be super long especially with a long line. It was an interesting experience, to say the least.
Butter Milk's open kitchen lets out sweet aromas of pancakes. I started to get really excited!
Not too long after, our ricotta cheese pancakes set and strawberry salad were served. The strawberry salad is seasonal and only available from November to May.
I could smell the pancakes right away. Cooked at medium thickness with a slab of butter on top, I couldn't wait to try them!
The ricotta cheese pancake set includes two pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs and salad, definitely generous with the portion. The salad had a great crunchy texture and tasted great with the sweet and salty pancake which melted straight in my mouth.
Overall, Butter Milk exceeded my expectation and there was no wonder why it is the most popular brunch spot in Hongdae.
The limited-time-only strawberry salad had a strong fruity flavour, not too sour or too sweet. The fresh smell of strawberries will definitely tickle your appetite.
Butter Milk was a great restaurant, the only downside being that waiting is almost always required. I can't say everyone will find it worthwhile to wait for pancakes.
