Banjak Banjak Bitnaneun (translated as "twinkle twinkle sparkling" in English) is a cafe in Insadong that sells handmade traditional Korean tea. This cafe is famous for making its own tea from scratch. Creatrip members can get a free Hangua (traditional Korean snack) collection upon ordering more than three menus at Banjak Banjak Bitnaneun.
Address: 서울특별시 종로구 인사동길 28-1
Hours: Mon to Sun 10:00 - 23:00
Offer: Creatrip members can get a free Hangua (traditional Korean snack) collection upon ordering more than three menus
Banjak Banjak Bitnaneun is both popular among Koreans and Foreigners. This place is located in Insadong, a traditional shopping district in Seoul. This cafe is known as the traditional Korean tea house, but also offers fusion smoothies and baked injeolmi (type of Korean rice cake). If you visit this cafe as a group, I strongly recommend you to order different menus and share with each other.
Creatrip members can get a free Hangua collection (worth ₩6,000) upon ordering more than three menus at Banjak Banjak Bitnaneun cafe. Since people usually order one drink per person and share one dessert menu, this prerequisite isn't hard to fulfil. We ordered plum tea, jujube tea, sweet pumpkin smoothie and Hangua collection came for free as we are Creatrip member.
Sweet Pumpkin Smoothie ₩7,000
The ice in the sweet pumpkin smoothie melts almost instantly in the mouth. Sweet pumpkin smoothie is not too sweet, so I would recommend this to those who don't like too sweet desserts.
On my previous visit, I've tried Schisandra Smoothie and Persimmon Smoothie.
Persimmon Smoothie ₩8,000
Persimmon Smoothie had a strong persimmon flavour and was very sweet. However, it did not taste artificial, so if you have a sweet tooth, this smoothie is just for you.
Schisandra Smoothie ₩8,000
Schisandra smoothie had a refreshing taste. With one scoop of Schisandra smoothie, you start to feel healthy. This is a great dessert for summer.
Jujube Tea ₩7,000
Jujube tea is a traditional Korean tea and has a very strong Jujube taste. It felt like I was drinking highly concentrated jujube juice. It made me feel invigorated. It's one of those drinks that Korean granddad and grandma loves.
Plum Tea ₩6,000
This plum tea was very bittersweet, so I would recommend this drink to foreigners. Koreans would drink plum juice when they feel bloated as plum has a substance that gets rid of the stuffed feeling.
Baked Injeolmi Rice Cake ₩7,000
Banjak Banjak Bitnaneun's signature dessert is baked Injeolmi. Injeolmi gets bigger when it is baked. The outside of the Injeolmi becomes crispy, and the inside gets sticky.
The Baked Injeolmi is served with citrus honey and regular honey. You must dip it in honey to taste the perfect combination of Injeolmi and honey. Many customers became regulars after eating this delicious baked Injeolmi with honey. I personally wanted to revisit this cafe after eating the Baked Injeolmi.
However, you have to finish the Injeolmi before it gets cold. Once it gets cold, the taste and texture get ruined.
The interior of the cafe was not big, but there are plenty of comfortable seats. There is even a place where you can experience the Korean ondol (underfloor heating) room.
The owner of the store has left a notepad for customers to write comments and doodles.
If you have a plan to visit Insadong, check out Banjak Banjak Bitnaneun's signature traditional tea and baked Injeolmi. I strongly recommend you to try the baked injeolmi. You will love it at first bite!
