Only visiting Seoul when you come to Korea? If you’re looking for a relaxing escape in nature, away from the noise and crowds, it’s time to check out Jecheon. Known as the “healing city” for its stunning landscapes and peaceful atmosphere, Jecheon is a hidden gem just outside Seoul. In this guide, I’ll show you the best ways to get there and share a few tips to make your trip even better.

Jecheon, located in Chungcheongbuk-do at Korea’s center, is surrounded by mountains and lakes, filled with cultural heritage, and offers unique experiences like its annual international music and film festival. Just an hour away from Seoul by KTX, it’s an ideal spot to explore when you have some extra time!


Transportation to Jecheon

The quickest way to reach Jecheon within Korea is by train. Jecheon Station is accessible by KTX, ITX, and regular trains.

1. KTX

You can catch the KTX to Jecheon from both Seoul Station and Cheongnyangni Station. There are around four daily departures from Seoul Station and about nine from Cheongnyangni Station.

If your accommodation isn’t near Seoul Station, taking the train from Cheongnyangni Station is a better choice, considering price, schedule, and travel time.

Quick tip: KTX tickets to Jecheon sell out faster than other trains, especially for weekend trips. Make sure to book at least a week in advance!

2. Regular Train

You can take the regular train to Jecheon from Seoul Station, Cheongnyangni Station, or Yeongdeungpo Station. On weekdays, Seoul Station and Yeongdeungpo Station each have one train per day, while Cheongnyangni Station runs about eight trains daily.

Taking a regular train from Cheongnyangni Station is a good alternative. The travel time is similar to the KTX, but it's about 30% cheaper—perfect if you're looking to save on travel costs!

At Cheongnyangni Station, you can board KTX, ITX, and regular trains to Jecheon at gates 7 and 8.

Take the seat listed on your ticket and the train will depart on time.

After traveling for about an hour to an hour and a half by train, you will arrive at Jecheon Station.

As soon as you exit the station gates, you’ll find yourself in Jecheon’s downtown area. For travel info, head out through Exit 2 to the Jecheon Tourist Information Center, located right in front of the station!

3. Express Bus

If there aren’t any trains at your preferred time or your accommodation is far from the train station, consider taking an express bus! You can catch a bus to Jecheon from the Seoul Express Bus Terminal (Gyeongbu).

To catch the express bus to Jecheon, head to platform 24 at the Seoul Express Bus Terminal, following the signs for the Gyeongbu/Yongdong lines. The bus departs right on time, so plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early!

I choose the premium bus—it had private compartments and monitors, just like business class on a plane, making for a comfortable and private trip.

After about two hours, you’ll arrive at Jecheon Express Bus Terminal. The terminal has a convenience store, so you can grab a snack or pick up return tickets before or after your trip. Bonus tip: Show your express bus ticket at the popular Cheongpung Lake Cable Car in Jecheon for a 1,000 KRW discount!
