You can feel the beauty of nature so strongly here. This place is also close to Nami Island so it is common for people to see both on the same day. Things to Keep In Mind
There's no smoking or drinking in the Garden of Morning Calm.
No grass or flowers.
Do not enter the restricted areas.
No flowers, branches, stones, or insects.
You cannot reenter after exiting the Garden of Morning Calm.
No refunds in case of rain or snow.
Do not bring pets, food, bicycles or sports equipment.
Our Visit
The Garden of Morning Calm is Gapyeong's beautiful garden, located not far from Nami Island. Tourists often visit both Nami Island and the Garden of Morning Calm on the same day. Here, you will see gardens of different themes with the background of magnificent Chungryeongsan Mountain. The Garden of Morning Calm hopes to show the beauty of Korean nature, providing a fresh, relaxing atmosphere for visitors.
The Garden of Morning Calm
The Garden of Morning Calm is about 300,000 square meters consisting of 27 different concepts. There are more than 5,000 kinds of plants, including 300 from Baekdusan Mountain, the spiritual mountains of Korea.
The most beautiful sightseeing course that this place offers is in 10 zones: Cloud Bridge, Millenium Juniper, Sunken Garden, J's Cottage Garden, Pond Garden, Moonlight Garden, Road to Heave, Morning Plaza, Green House, and Morning Calm Gallery. We'll be introducing these sections below.
Let's explore the Garden of Morning Calm together.
We went to the Garden of Morning Calm on a weekday afternoon but it was still crowded. A lot of popular Korean dramas have been filmed here, including Moonlight Drawn by Clouds, I'm Not a Robot, Pretty Girl and Red Sleeve.
At the entrance on your left, you'll see a locker. You can leave your bulky luggage there during your visit. The price for a small locker is 1,500 KRW and the large lockers are 2,000 KRW. Only 500 KRW coins can be used to pay for the lockers. If you don't have coins, you can exchange at the ticket office.
Right next to the lockers is an automatic ticket machine. This machine is available in Korean, Chinese, English, and Japanese. You can choose the ticket you need to buy and pay with card.
For those who are not used to using the automatic ticket machine, you can go to the ticket office to the right and buy a ticket from one of the employees.
Here, there are guide maps in Korean, English, Chinese, or Japanese to take with you while you sightsee. When you enter, you will see a large space of green trees and orchids. For those who love nature, you will love it here.
Cloud Bridge
This is the Cloud Bridge, the famous bridge in the garden. Many people think of it as a great starting point or final area to go before exiting the garden. You can usually find people there taking photos.
When you step on the bridge, you can feel the vibrations of the bridge since it is suspended. Many find this exciting or horrifying. 😅
Millenium Juniper
Gyeonggido News
This is a 1,000-year-old juniper tree, which is the largest one in the entire garden. When you see it, you may be a bit surprised.
After crossing the Cloud Bridge, go to the left. That's where you will find this tree!
Sunken Garden
This is the garden's most popular section, the Sunken Garden. In the spring, summer, and fall, this place is filled with colorful flowers. From chrysanthemums, to pansori, to tulips, you'll find something pretty around ever corner. It's one of the best managed gardens in Korea for sure.
In particular, there are observatories where you can see the garden from up above. It's also a place where a lot fo people come to take pictures.
J's Cottage Garden
J's Cottage Garden is right behind the Sunken Garden. This is a special English garden in the Garden of Morning Calm. When you arrive, you'll feel like. you are entering a romantic, peaceful garden at a country house.
The highlight of this garden is that the house was prototyped from the houses in Cotswold, a beautiful town in England. In the spring, the garden is decorated with colorful tulips. However, this place will be the most beautiful from June to September when the old flowers bloom brightly.
Coming here feels like going into a dreamy cartoon. It's also referred to as the Garden of Promise.
Pond Garden
This is a Korean-style area with traditional hanok architecture and a tranquil lake next to it. There's also a small artificial stream here you so you can hear the sounds of the stream while you take in the view.
There were small stone slabs leading out to the small hut in the middle of the lake, but unfortunately, we were not allowed in. You can only take take pictures from afar. Looking at the calm lake was extremely peaceful.
If you go around the lake, you will see a place where five different-colored chairs are located. This was recently featured in the TC show, I Am Solo (나는 솔로). It's a great place for a photo.
Moonlight Garden
This is a garden inspired by the beauty of moonlight. Here, you will meet white flowers that symbolize the color of the moonlight, creating a somewhat magical atmosphere. There's also a small white house at the end of the walkway, which makes a beautiful background when taking pictures.
Since we visited in the spring, it was full of tulips. It's a place that certainly shouldn't be overlooked if you want to take some post-worthy photos.
Road to Heaven
The road connects Moonlight Garden and Morning Plaza. The reason why it's called Road to Heaven is because there is so many pretty flowers on both sides. It's a street with the largest flower beds among arboretum in Korea with tulips, poppies, lilies, and chrysanthemums.
At the entrance to the Road to Heaven, you'll see a great photo zone. The mirror reflecting the mount sky makes your photo look like you truly are in heaven.
Morning Plaza
It's an incredibly wide lawn. There isn't much to see here but when you arrive, you'll know. you've made it through most of the garden. You can rest on the bench before heading back towards the exit.
If this is too boring for you, you can visit Stream Garden which right next to the Morning Plaza. Here, there is enough pretty scenery to keep your eyes occupied.
Green House
If you want to go to the Green House, you will have to pass through the Sharon Garden (filled with roses). You can appreciate the many different types of flowers as you make your way to the Green House.
Once you make your way all the way through the Sharon Garden, you will arrive at the Green House. In the Green House, you will see a variety of plants.
There's a nice little waterfall in the middle. Here you can visit ever nook and cranny to learn everything about every plan inside.
Morning Calm Gallery
This is the Garden of Morning Calm's exhibition that's located to the side of the entrance. Many pictures of the garden are displayed here. You can walk through and appreciate the places you visited once again or even check out the areas you may have missed.
Note, that when you enter here, you can enter here, you can't bring food or drink inside. Flash photography is also prohibited, along with touching the images or running.
The Garden of Morning Calm
Every season, the Garden of Morning Calm is beautiful in a different way. Spring, Summer, and Fall, this place will be filled with trees and flowers. But in Winter, even after the leaves and flowers are not in bloom, you can enjoy the festival of lights, especially at night.
The Garden of Morning Calm
The light festival is usually held in early December until mid-March. After sundown, the place lights up colorfully and brightly. You'll be immersed in a magical world of light. Visiting the garden in the winter will bring such a unique and different experience in comparison to the other seasons.

Since the garden doesn't let you bring food from outside, if you want to eat, you'll have to go to these locations.

Korean Restaurant Food Garden (한식당 푸드가든)
Hours: 12:00 - 18:00 (Last Order: 17:00); Closed on Tuesdays
Location: Next to Bansai Garden
This restaurant sells Korean food like Soy Paste Soup (9,000 KRW), Bibimbap (9,000 KRW), Bulgogi (13,000 KRW), Fried Chicken (11,000 KRW), etc.
Good Morning Coffee (굿모닝커피)
Hours: 10:00 - 18:00
Location: Walk along the Poem
This hanok cafe sells drinks such as coffees, teas, and lattes. Drinks cost around 6,000 KRW. It also has a nice view!
Morning Spring Bakery (아침봄빵집)
Hours: 10:00 - 17:00 (Last Order: 16:00)
Location: In the same court as Good Morning Coffee
Here they sell cakes that are made through natural fermentation. Here you can find products like croissants and black rye bread. A piece of cake starts at 4,500 KRW.
Snack Shop (매점)
Hours: 10:00 - 18:00
Location: Walk along the Poem
Here you can find snacks such as ice cream and bottled water.
Gardening Shop & Cafe (초록장점)
Hours: 10:00 - 17:30 (Last Order: 16:45); Closed on Tuesdays and Saturdays
Here you can find drinks and gardening-related items. It's much larger than expected and has an indoor and outdoor area.
The Garden Shop & Cafe has a view of the beautiful Pond Garden. It's the most beautiful cafe in the Garden of Morning Calm for sure.
The drinks here are not too diverse. There's only really coffee, tea and different types of ade. You can try the handmade tea (7,000 KRW) which has a really strong and fragrant smell when you drink it hot.
Shopping Spots in the Garden of Morning Calm
Herbal Shop (정원가게)
Hours: 9:00 - 18:00
Location: Opposite the ticket booth
They sell a lot of different types of crystals here, as well as oils, lotions, scented candles, diffusers and more. The prices start at 8,000 KRW.
Landscape Tree Shop (하늘나리)
Hours: 9:00 - 17:00; Closed on Saturdays
Location: The right of the ticket booth.
There are many kinds of flowers, trees, and seed here for those who love gardening. For small plants, the price is only 5,000 KRW.

Things to Keep in Mind
It's a good idea to combine it with a Nami Island tour! Try going to Nami Island in the morning and then the Garden of Morning Calm in the afternoon.
You can take a bus to the Garden of Morning Calm from Gapyeong Station, Cheongpyeong Station, Nami Island and a few other places but the times are a bit inconvenient. It's best to take a taxi or go on planned tours if you can. The tours have shuttle busses and guides so you'll have an easy time getting around.
The garden is most beautiful in spring, summer and fall. However, the light festival is only available in winter.
Follow the guided tour course to explore the the garden in a convenient and economical way.
How to Get There
You can go to Gapyeong Station, Cheongpyeong Station and the Cheongpyeong Bus Terminal and take a local bus to the Garden of Morning Calm. But since the local busses usually have fewer trips and busses running the route. You should consult Gapeyong City Tour Bus or take a tour to save time visit more spots.
1. From Seoul to the Garden of Morning Calm

From Cheongnyangni/Yongsan Station, ride the ITX-Cheongchun to Gapyeong Station.

From Gapyeong Station to Gapyeong CIty Tour Bus - Course A to the Garden of Morning Calm (8,000 KRW, 1 hour 15 minutes). First Bus: 9:20, Last Train: 17:20. Frequency: Every 2 hours. Taxi or car: 29,100 KRW. About 32 minutes.
You can also take the local bus but it takes a long time.
Gapyeong City Tour Bus
Buses pass through Gapyeong's tourist attractions. You can use the ticket all day to get on and off the bus. Creatrip recommends that you buy this bus ticket so that you can enjoy various places such as Nami Island, Petite France and the Garden of Morning Calm in a short amount of time and without any additional transportation charges.
This bus has two routes, Course A and Course B. Due to COVID-19, Course B has been temporarily suspended operation, but Course A operates two times a day.

Buy a ticket directly from the driver when the bus arrives.

Taking a local bus or the Gapyeong City Tour Bus from Cheongpyeong Bus Terminal to the Garden of Morning Calm (last stop) takes about 21 - 25 minutes.

Vehicle 30-7: Operates from 9:20 - 15:50, frequency is every 185 minutes.

Take Gapyeong City Tour Bus to the Garden of Morning Calm - Course A (8,000 KRW, 1 hour 10 minutes). First Bus 9:25, Last Bus 17:25. Frequency, every 2 hours.
By Car or taxi: 31,000 KRW and about 33 minutes.

3. From the Garden of Morning Calm to Seoul
