Have you been to a Korean convenience store?

There are so many convenience stores in Korea that you can find at least one every block.

At these convenience stores, you can get a variety of delicious snacks and convenient foods at affordable prices!

At popular stores such as CU, GS, and 7-Eleven there are newly released items every month that you can look forward to.

I visit these stores daily, so we'll be reviewing and introducing them to you every month!

So, April's new releases at convenience stores! Shall we begin?

CU

CU new releases dumpling potato chips, protein chips, sandwich

#Protein Chips Original

original protein chips at CUPrice: 2,000 won

The first snack we wanted to introduce is the Protein Chips released by CU. As the name suggests, it is a healthy snack that contains 11g of protein!

What's more, is that the chips are baked and not fried! It's a go-to snack for those on a diet.

Because of its name, I thought it would taste really healthy and light, as most diet snacks aren't as flavorful.

However, these CU protein chips were different. Our team at Creatrip all tried the chips and talked about how good it was.

It was sprinkled with a slightly reddish seasoning which made it sweet and salty. Maybe because it was made with chicken breast, but there were some reviews saying it tastes like Korean fried soy sauce chicken.

Even if you're not on a diet, you can still choose this healthy alternative because it's so good! I think I will continue to buy these.

# Dumpling Potato Chips

Price: 1,500 won

Recently, I introduced unique collaboration foods in Korea. This is also a very unique collaboration snack!

Hometown dumplings are original frozen dumplings made in the 1980s. My mom used to make dumpling dishes a lot for me growing up with hometown dumplings.

The hometown dumplings meet potato chips and are created as a snack! There are two flavors available- kimchi dumplings and meat dumplings. It's sold out in most places already because it's so popular.

Basically, they are crispy and delicious thin potato chips. But, the taste of kimchi dumplings was quite strong. It was interesting to taste kimchi dumplings when I'm eating potato chips.

There were a couple of reviews from our team that it tasted less like dumplings are more like Kimchi Bowl Noodles which is a popular cup of ramen in Korea.

Both potato chips and dumplings are popular foods when drinking at home by yourself. Since these snacks are a bit of both, I feel this would be so good after a long day with a can of beer.

# Mugwort Rice Cake Sandwich

mugwort rice cake sandwich CU

Price: 2,800 won

Mugwort and red bean rice cakes are traditional Korean ingredients. In the past, rice cakes were usually made with mugwort and red beans. This can be labelled as a snack for the "older generation."

I also have the taste of the older generation so I enjoy mugwort and red beans on a daily basis. I happily picked these up at a convenience store as soon as I heard they were released!

This sandwich was a great combination of soft and moist milky bread with sticky mugwort cream and sweet red bean cream!

With each bite, you could taste the sweet cream smooshed in between the soft milky bread. The mugwort rice cake was very flavorful and amazing.

I think it will taste even better when paired with a cup of coffee or milk.

If you're curious about traditional Korean rice cakes that people used to snack on, how about trying this amazing combination as a sandwich?

GS25

# Turtle Chips

GS rabbit and turtle chocolate churros snacks

Price: 1,200 won

One of the most popular snacks in Korea recently is the Kobuk Chips.

There are a lot of people that say that this brand copied the original Kobuk Chips.

In April, the chocolate churros flavored chips were released, so we had to try them!

Turtle chips have four very crispy layers. The salty chips were lightly coated with sweet chocolate so it tasted both sweet and kind of salty at the same time.

Thanks to the cinnamon, it felt like eating churros as well.

Although it is very tasty, some reviewed that it was not as good as the original Kobuk chips!

I don't think I'll head to the store for this! But, it is a great alternative if the Kobuk chips are sold out.

# Korean-style Spicy Beef Burger

korean style berg burger new release April GSPrice: 3,800 won

Did you know that you can buy burgers at Korean convenience stores too? The burgers they sell can be easily be made by opening the bag slightly and putting it in the microwave!

GS25 launched this big-sized Korean-style Spicy Beef Burger so we had to try it!

The ingredients were quite simple! It consisted of a beef bulgogi patty, pickles, and sauce in between the buns.

I actually don't like the burgers sold at convenience stores, it tastes cheap and the flavors are too strong. I can literally feel my health declining after each bite.

However, this beef burger was very delicious! First, the patty was made of beef bulgogi so the sauce was quite sweet.

There was even gochujang, a national sauce in Korea, so it tasted very familiar!

The size is also a lot bigger than other convenience store burgers so it's big enough to fill you up for lunch when you're on the go!

# Choco Malang Jelly - Apple

chocolate Malang jelly apple

Price: 2,000 won

First of all, how cute is the packaging!

The cow-shaped character on the package is Malangi, the mascot for the popular Korean jelly called Malang Cow.

The same company for Malang Cow launched this Choco Malang Jelly!

They have apple and strawberry flavors, but I prefer apple flavor so I bought one!

When you open the milk carton-shaped package, there is a small plastic bag. When you open the plastic bag, you will find small chocolate balls inside!

However, it isn't just regular chocolate balls, it actually has a small round jelly inside the chocolate balls. In other words, you can enjoy both chocolate and jelly together!

Personally, I felt that those two didn't really go together. I like chocolate and apple-flavored gummies separately, but not together.

There were however some people that really enjoyed it! So, if you are curious about how it tastes, why don't you give it a try?

7-Eleven

7-eleven April new releases

# Spicy Ro Tteokbokki

spicy rose rice cakes from korean 7-11

Mijeongdang, a brand famous for making great tteokbokki (Korean spicy rice cakes) launched a spicy rosé one in a cup at 7-Eleven!

As soon as I heard the news that this product was released, it was on top of my list of things to try! These days, spicy rice cakes made with rosé sauce are so popular in Korea!

It's very easy to make! Just put all the rice cakes and sauce in the cup, pour in hot water up to the line marked in the box, and microwave it for 3 minutes.

Then, throw in a slice of cheese to finish!

How good does this look? It was a very delicious dish from 7-Eleven.

Although it contains the name spicy, it wasn't spicy at all.

Even though I'm Korean, I'm not good with spicy food. But it didn't taste spicy at all. I definitely recommend this for people that aren't really good with spicy food as well.

However, it didn't really taste like a proper rosé tteokbokki. There is a lack of creaminess and it just tasted cheesy.

So, if you want to eat cheesy tteokbokki that isn't very spicy, then this one's for you!

# Chaparing

chaparing new release from 7 eleven

Price: 1,500 won

Japaring is also a unique collaboration food like the dumpling chips I introduced earlier.

Onion rings, an old Korean classic onion snack, and the famous stir-fried noodles, chapaghetti ramen, met together and became chaparing!

jjaparing opened bag

Once I opened the bag, the rings were slightly more black than the original onion rings.

The first taste was the same as the regular onion rings, but after a while, I tasted the chapaghetti.

Originally, when eating chapaghetti noodles, I would add in onions so the taste was familiar to me.

But if I hadn't known that it was chaparing, then I wouldn't have really tasted the chapaghetti. If anything it tasted more like the regular onion rings.

It was still good, but I was disappointed because I was expecting the rich taste of chapaghetti.

# Watta Loopy Gum

watta loopy chewing gum

Price: 500 won

Our last new product of the day! It's the Watta bubble gum- Loopy edition! For the month of April, Watta bubble gum collaborated with Pororo and Friend's popular character Loopy.

Loopy is this pink character. Recently, there have been many memes of Loopy going around in Korea!

poporo and friends loopy character gum

Perhaps that's why there were various Loopy characters put on each gum like this. It is said that there are 60 different types of Loopy characters for this gum!

The gum was pineapple flavored and it was delicious! It wasn't too sweet and it was refreshing.

However, what's even more important are the stickers!

After eating the gum, you can peel off the sticker on the wrapper, put it on a piece of paper and scratch it with your fingernails.

It will stick to the paper, and you can carefully peel it off! Isn't it so cute? I also am a huge fan of the Loopy character so I stuck it all over my diary!

Today I reviewed April's new releases at Korean convenience stores! There are so many delicious and interesting products!

I'm happy that I am able to introduce them to you faster than anyone else.

The next time you visit Korea, check out the products we mentioned today on our list and let us know down below which one was your favorite.

I'll be back next month to review May's products!
